Vasto Marina, Italy – Police officer rescues teenager from strong currents

A teenage visitor of Egyptian origin plunged into turbulent waters at Vasto Marina’s Lido Il Pontile despite a posted ban. The strong wind and rip currents quickly dragged him away from the pier. Osvaldo Benedetto, a vice‑inspector of the State Police from the Termoli precinct, together with lifeguard Gioele Perrone entered the sea and, despite the rough conditions, secured the youngster and brought him safely back to shore. The rescued teen thanked his rescuers but declined medical attention. Authorities highlighted the danger of swimming in adverse marine conditions and urged the public to respect safety warnings.
