Vatican Bank posts €51 million net profit in 2025, details benefit allocation

The Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR), commonly known as the Vatican Bank, reported a net profit of €51 million for 2025. The institution generated €67.6 million of economic value, up from €50 million the previous year, and its asset‑management activities created an additional €142.5 million of value for the Church’s mission.

The IOR allocated 36 % of the generated value to the Pope (approximately €18 million), 23 % to its staff, 14 % to suppliers, and the remaining share was earmarked to strengthen the Institute’s capital base. The report highlights the application of ESG criteria, exclusion of companies involved in abortion, armaments, pornography, gambling, tobacco and alcohol, and compliance with GRI standards and the EU’s sustainability reporting directive.

In 2025 the Institute delivered more than 2,700 hours of training, including 300 hours dedicated to compliance, risk management and audit. Digital initiatives reduced paper purchases by 37 %, supporting its environmental goals.
