Vatican finances 2025
Entities: Vatican City · Pope (Holy Father) · Apostolic See's Asset Management Office (APSA) · Institute for the Works of Religion (IOR) · Pope Lazzaro
Overview
In late July 2026 the Vatican Bank (Institute for the Works of Religion) reported a €51 million net profit for 2025 and detailed how the generated value was allocated among the Pope, staff, suppliers and capital reserves, while highlighting ESG‑focused investment policies and training initiatives.
A few days later the Vatican’s Office for the Management of Assets disclosed that operational profit for the same year had fallen sharply to €22.8 million, a drop of more than 60 % from 2024. Despite the profit decline, the total net value of the Holy See’s assets rose by €89 million to €2.686 billion, driven by revaluations in gold, real estate and securities. The report noted higher rental income, lower maintenance costs and a continued emphasis on preserving the Church’s heritage under the new Pope elected in 2025.
