Pope León XIV’s Potential November Visit to Argentina Draws Vatican Preparations

A Vatican delegation has toured Argentina to assess sites for a possible papal visit by Pope León XIV, the pontiff elected in May 2025. The team met with government officials, the Casa Militar and the Argentine Episcopal Conference to discuss security, logistics and protocol. New Apostolic Nuncio Michael Wallace Banach arrived in Buenos Aires and is coordinating the preparations.

President Javier Milei and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno have mentioned November 2026 as a tentative timeframe, though the Holy See has not issued an official announcement. Proposed Argentine stops include Córdoba, the city of Luján and other locations in Buenos Aires Province, with the visit expected to last about three days.

The planned tour also covers Uruguay and Peru. In Peru, the itinerary announced so far lists Lima, Pucallpa, Chiclayo and Cusco, while Piura was excluded. All preparations remain contingent on a formal confirmation from the Vatican.
