Pope Leo XIV requires no further cancer treatment

Medical evaluations have confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will not require additional oncological treatment following surgery to remove a tumor from his right lung. On October 21, the Vatican released a definitive medical report signed by Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora, the lead surgeon at Gemelli Polyclinic.

Histological and molecular biology tests confirmed the diagnosis as a localized pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Because the cancer was encapsulated and had not spread, oncologists determined that complementary therapies, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, are unnecessary.

The 71-year-old pontiff, who underwent the 90-minute procedure on October 13, has shown a rapid recovery. He was discharged from the hospital on October 17 and has since resumed public activities, including presiding over the general audience in St. Peter's Square.

With clinical clearance, the Vatican is proceeding with preparations for the Pope's upcoming apostolic tour of South America, scheduled from November 6 to 17. The itinerary includes visits to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru.
