Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin visited Mexico in early August 2026, presiding over a Mass at the Basilica of Guadalupe. In his homily he praised the perseverance of mothers searching for their disappeared children, stating that “nothing can stop them” and urging prayer and societal support.

He met with President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace, where they discussed peace, the ethical use of artificial intelligence and themes from Pope Francis’ first encyclical. Parolin highlighted Mexico’s crisis of more than 130,000 registered missing persons and called for solidarity with migrants, victims of violence and other vulnerable groups.

During the three‑day visit the Vatican’s “Diálogo Nacional por la Paz” initiative was presented, bringing together clergy, civil‑society organisations, police and local authorities to cooperate on search efforts and broader peace‑building measures.
