Vatican to publish private diary of Pope Francis
The Vatican has announced the upcoming publication of ‘The Private Diary of Pope Francis’, scheduled for release on November 24. The collection features personal notes written by Jorge Mario Bergoglio spanning over three decades, from December 20, 1992, through August 18, 2024.
The writings cover his tenure as an auxiliary bishop in Buenos Aires, his time as archbishop, his elevation to the College of Cardinals, and his nearly 12 years as pope. Unlike a traditional autobiography, the volume consists of original notes, or ‘appunti’, written throughout his various roles.
Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, has edited and annotated the material. Andrea Tornielli, editorial director of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, stated the book aims to provide readers with a “deeper understanding of the Argentine pope’s inner life.” The book will be released in five languages and distributed in 94 countries, with the English edition published by Image, an imprint of Penguin Random House Christian Publishing Group.
