Publication of Pope Francis's private diary

Overview

The Vatican has announced the upcoming global publication of ‘The Private Diary of Pope Francis,’ scheduled for release on November 24. The collection consists of personal notes, or ‘appunti,’ written by Jorge Mario Bergoglio over three decades, spanning from December 1992 to August 2024.

The writings document his various roles, including his time as an auxiliary bishop and archbishop in Argentina, his elevation to the College of Cardinals, and his pontificate. Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, will provide commentary and historical context for the entries.

The book is intended to offer a “deeper understanding of the Argentine pope’s inner life” and will be released simultaneously in five languages across 94 countries. Publishing responsibilities include the Libreria Editrice Vaticana for the Italian edition, Editions Albin Michel for the French release, and Penguin Random House for the Spanish, English, and Portuguese versions.
