VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava opens 126 million CZK research center

VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava has inaugurated the CPI TETRA L4 research center at its Poruba campus. The six-story facility, valued at 126 million CZK, is designed to support approximately 50 researchers focusing on autonomous driving, electromobility, artificial intelligence, and humanoid robotics.

A key feature of the center is a unique 380-meter closed testing track shaped like an elongated figure-eight. This polygon allows for the immediate testing of software and hardware on real vehicles, including autonomous trucks and public transport up to 50 tons, at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The facility includes high-speed 5G communication networks essential for smart mobility development.

The center aims to facilitate rapid technology transfer to industry through collaborations with major companies such as Škoda Auto, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Valeo, and Tatra. Additionally, the university maintains a joint research workspace with the South Korean institute KATECH to advance automotive technologies.
