VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava research developments
Overview
VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava has initiated several large-scale research infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic.
In late September 2026, the university began construction on the CEETe H2 hydrogen research polygon in Ostrava. Supported by the European Union’s Just Transition Fund and the Czech Ministry of the Environment, the project aims to create a ‘living laboratory’ for the hydrogen value chain. The facility is designed to produce up to 150 kilograms of hydrogen daily to fuel regional and municipal buses, allowing researchers to develop a ‘digital twin’ of the energy system.
By mid-October 2026, the university inaugurated the CPI TETRA L4 research center at its Poruba campus. This 126 million CZK facility focuses on autonomous driving, electromobility, artificial intelligence, and humanoid robotics. The center features a 380-meter closed testing track for vehicles up to 50 tons and utilizes high-speed 5G networks to facilitate technology transfer to automotive industry partners.
