Václav Havel: Commemorations and legacy discussions

Czech Radio is organizing a series of broadcasts to commemorate the upcoming 90th anniversary of Václav Havel's birth. The programming includes radio plays such as 'Pižďuchové', a new recording of 'Audience' featuring Martin Myšička and Ivan Trojan, and a broadcast of 'The Beggar Opera'.

Other cultural commemorations scheduled by the stations include the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi and the 90th birthday of composer Steve Reich. Additionally, the radio will honor the writer Eduard Bass.

In a separate discussion regarding Havel's enduring influence, political figures and cultural contributors have debated his political legacy. The conversation explores the impact of his presidency following the events of 1989 and compares his rise to that of Alexander Dubček, questioning how his leadership shaped the Czech public sphere.
