Václav Havel legacy honored through Prague exhibition and Trutnov festival

Various commemorations are underway in the Czech Republic to honor the legacy of Václav Havel, the former Czechoslovak and Czech president, on the occasion of what would have been his 90th birthday.

In Prague, an outdoor exhibition titled ‘The Story of the Havel Family’ is being held in Smíchov before the Church of St. Wenceslas. Conducted by the research team at Czech Archives, the two-year study traces the family's lineage from the 17th century, revealing their origins in northeastern Bohemia rather than the previously rumored locations. The exhibition maps the family's rises and falls over three centuries.

In Trutnov, the Trutnov Open Air music festival has launched, dedicating its program to Havel. The festival features a diverse lineup including The Plastic People of the Universe and Lucie, alongside cultural debates and exhibitions. The event maintains a historical connection to the underground music scene that Havel supported during the communist era.
