Veeam report reveals gap in ransomware recovery effectiveness

A significant gap exists between corporate confidence in data recovery and actual effectiveness during ransomware attacks. According to Veeam’s Data Trust and Resilience Report 2026, while 90% of organizations claim to trust their recovery capabilities, only 28% of ransomware victims successfully achieved a complete restoration of affected data.

Enrique Solari, Business Development Director at DIMA Perú, emphasizes that true cyber resilience should be measured by how long an organization can remain non-operational and how much data loss it can tolerate, rather than simply the existence of backups.

Effective recovery strategies require more than static copies. Key components include the use of immutable copies to prevent attackers from compromising backups, periodic testing, and the alignment of Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) with business continuity requirements. Currently, while 90% of companies believe they can recover within their RTO, only 69% consider these objectives to be fully aligned with their actual business needs.
