Vegetable and fruit prices fluctuate in week 43

Market data for week 43 shows significant price shifts across various produce categories. Tomato prices have risen sharply at the Verbond van Belgische Tuinbouwcoöperaties (VBT) auctions, with loose tomatoes reaching 1.38 euros per kilo and vine tomatoes at 2.19 euros per kilo, driven by lower volumes compared to last year.

Cucumber prices have also seen an increase, averaging 64 euro cents per unit. In contrast, eggplant prices remain significantly lower than the previous year due to high volumes. Strawberry prices are trending upward as unheated greenhouse supplies wind down and supermarket promotions expire; average prices rose from 3.19 to 3.49 euros per 400 grams.

Mango prices also increased following the end of various retail discounts. Meanwhile, blueberry prices saw a slight decrease due to specific supermarket offers, and pepper supplies remain high, leading to lower prices for most colors except yellow peppers.
