Vehicle recalls lead product safety notices in US and Mexico

Automotive recalls have emerged as the leading category for product safety notices. In the United States, data from the NHTSA through September 2026 shows 625 recall campaigns affecting over 32 million units. The volume is highly concentrated, with the top five manufacturers accounting for 80.5% of the total. Ford recorded 13.8 million affected units across 65 campaigns, more than double its closest competitor. Key risks include collision hazards (68.3%) and fire or burn risks (17.4%). A significant issue remains the completion rate; repairs for campaigns initiated between 2012 and 2022 reached only 65.8%, leaving over one-third of affected vehicles unrepaired.

In Mexico, Profeco has issued alerts for several vehicle models. Kia is recalling EV6 units due to potential high-voltage battery charging errors and Telluride models (2020–2024) regarding seat switch covers. Toyota is addressing issues with Sequoia hybrid models involving moisture leakage in grille connectors and Tacoma models (2024) where tow hook covers may detach while driving.
