Automotive product safety and vehicle recalls

Overview

Automotive recalls remain a significant safety concern in the United States and Mexico. In the U.S., data through September 2026 shows 625 recall campaigns affecting over 32 million units, with Ford accounting for 13.8 million. Primary risks include collision and fire hazards, though repair completion rates for older campaigns are 65.8%.

In Mexico, recent recalls have expanded to include electronic and mechanical defects. Ford and Lincoln issued a recall for 2,953 vehicles due to seat malfunctions. This includes 1,638 Ford Explorer (2025) and Lincoln Aviator (2020-2025) units with incorrectly installed folding switches that could jam, 21 Lincoln Navigator (2026) units where seats may move automatically, and 1,294 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator (2020) units with improperly secured seat fasteners. Additionally, 6,558 Ford and Lincoln units face issues where infotainment software malfunctions cause rearview cameras to intermittently display a blank image.

Honda Mexico, in coordination with Profeco, has also issued a recall for 1,954 Accord Hybrid models (2023-2025). The defect involves the Ignition Control Module (ICM), which could lead to a progressive loss of power and cause the vehicle to stop. Authorized dealers will perform necessary inspections and updates at no cost to owners.
