Vehicle thefts in Buenos Aires neighborhoods prompt arrests and recoveries

Police in Argentina arrested repeat car thief Gastón Cáceres after he was caught breaking into several parked vehicles in Ushuaía, including a Fiat Palio and a Volkswagen Gol, during the first week of July. Cáceres, 38, had a history of nighttime break‑ins and was detained by the División Policía Científica following surveillance footage and victim reports.

In a separate incident in the Saavedra district of Buenos Aires, two armed men robbed 22‑year‑old Fernando Higuaín, a cousin of former football star Gonzalo Higuaín, of his BYD pickup. The vehicle’s satellite‑tracking system allowed police to locate it hours later in Grand Bourg, where the suspects—a 29‑year‑old man and a 33‑year‑old woman—were apprehended and placed under judicial custody.
