Veles launches ‘Safe City’ traffic monitoring system

The ‘Safe City’ system has officially launched in Veles, North Macedonia. Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski visited the modernized command center of the Veles Police Station to mark the commencement of the system's operations.

The new command center is located in renovated premises previously used by the Ministry of Defense. According to Minister Toshkovski, the system has already shown significant results in traffic enforcement. Within a 36-hour period, approximately 150 fines were issued across the Veles, Kavadarci, Negotino, and Demir Kapija territories, with the majority being for speeding and several for running red lights.

Toshkovski emphasized that the primary objective of the ‘Safe City’ initiative is to change driving habits and save lives rather than generating revenue for the budget. He noted that the increased compliance with traffic rules reflects a positive shift toward European standards of road safety.
