Veles traffic surveillance system implementation

Overview

The ‘Bezbeden Grad’ (Safe City) automated surveillance system was scheduled for expansion to Veles, North Macedonia, starting September 12, 2026. The system, which aims to increase road discipline and reduce accidents through continuous monitoring and automated registration of violations, follows similar implementations in Skopje, Kumanovo, and Tetovo.

Following its official launch, Minister of Internal Affairs Panche Toshkovski and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski visited the modernized Veles Police Station command center. Early operational data indicated that within the first 36 hours, approximately 150 fines were issued across the Veles, Kavadarci, Negotino, and Demir Kapija territories, primarily for speeding and running red lights. Minister Toshkovski stated the initiative’s goal is to change driving habits and align with European road safety standards rather than generating budget revenue.
