Veneto implements biodiversity project to restore degraded lands

The IN. E. R. BIO project (Inerbimenti per Ecosistemi Resilienti e BIOdiversi) is working to restore degraded lands in the Veneto region through the use of native plant species. This initiative aims to promote ecological balance and support local biodiversity in areas such as landslides, former quarries, industrial sites, and road embankments.

In collaboration with the University of Padua, the project utilizes a registry of high-biodiversity semi-natural meadows to source appropriate plant materials. This creates a short supply chain that ensures the selected vegetation is resilient and suitable for local pollinators.

Practical applications have already begun, including restoration efforts in the Fantoni landslide area in Recoaro Mille and the environmental recovery of a ski slope on the Asiago Plateau. In the latter case, hay and seeds collected from natural pastures at various altitudes are being used to ensure the new greenery is consistent with the local ecosystem.
