Veneto Regional Council prepares for autonomy vote

The Veneto Regional Council is preparing for a potential extraordinary session on August 25 to discuss matters regarding differentiated autonomy. The agenda includes four key areas: civil protection, professions, supplementary and integrative social security, and health protection specifically regarding the coordination of public finance.

Following the regional government's approval of final agreement schemes on August 5, the process moves toward the Regional Council, the Council of Ministers, and eventually a vote in the Italian Parliament. While proponents argue the move aims to reduce the distance between local territories and decision-making, the initiative faces political opposition. Critics have questioned the sequence of agreements and essential service levels, and regional leaders from other areas, such as Puglia, have indicated potential legal challenges before the Constitutional Court.
