Venezuela advances rehab of Sor Juana Inés and El Algodonal hospitals

The Venezuelan government, through the Popular National Consultation and the Ministry of Public Works, is carrying out extensive rehabilitation of two Caracas hospitals: the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Hospital and the El Algodonal (Doctor José Ignacio Baldó) Complex.

At Sor Juana Inés, work began on 5 June, led by community communes Agroproductiva Pedro Camejo (pediatrics and delivery ward) and Fanny Prieto (main operating rooms). The municipal mayor Nelson Álvarez and governor Arnaldo Sánchez support emergency‑area repairs, roof waterproofing, and the acquisition of a surgical electrobisturí and an upcoming aspirator. The reopening of the gyne‑obstetrics operating theater is expected to reduce waiting lists.

At El Algodonal, the Ministry reports waterproofing of 29,000 m² of roof, upgrades to the Simón Bolívar nucleus, internal‑medicine and thorax units, new water and sewage lines, bathroom, door, window and locker renovations, work on four of eight elevators, installation of air‑conditioning units, and replacement of lighting. The project is part of the Dr. José Gregorio Hernández Plan coordinated by the Vice Presidency of Public Works.
