Mexico and Latin America announce 2026‑27 school calendars and supplies

Mexico’s Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) published the official 2026‑27 school calendar for basic education. Classes begin on 31 August 2026 and end on 9 July 2027, totaling 185 instructional days. The first break is scheduled for 16 September, the first “bridge” (Friday 25 September) follows a Council of Technical School session, winter recess runs 21 December 2026 – 9 January 2027, Easter recess 29 March – 9 April 2027, and summer holidays start 10 July 2027. The SEP also released a recommended list of school supplies, emphasizing reusable materials and low cost for pre‑school, primary and secondary students.

In Peru, the Ministry of Education announced the winter vacation for public schools from 27 July to 7 August 2026, outlining a 36‑week academic plan that includes three management blocks and two main vacation periods. Honduras’ Education Secretariat issued guidelines for patriotic parade rehearsals, stating that rehearsals must be scheduled outside regular class hours and must not lead to full‑day class suspensions. The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education set the start of the 2026‑27 school year for 24 August 2026 and inaugurated 77 new classrooms serving 2,660 students in the Greater Santo Domingo area.
