Venezuela and PAHO launch national vector control plan

The General Directorate of Environmental Health, under the Ministry of People's Power for Health, has launched a national vector control plan in cooperation with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The initiative aims to strengthen institutional responses and protect vulnerable populations from diseases transmitted by vectors.

Priority strategies focus on high-risk epidemiological pathologies, including dengue, malaria, Zika, Chikungunya, and Chagas disease. The plan includes five main lines of intervention: specialized entomological surveillance, integrated vector management, monitoring insecticide resistance, training and equipment, and community participation.

Authorities also established an operational roadmap to intensify inspection and containment efforts in priority communities, specifically those affected by the earthquake on July 24. Colonel Luis González Gotta, Director General of Environmental Health, stated that the plan unifies technical criteria to optimize the state's capacity to immediately block vector-borne disease outbreaks.
