Venezuela and Russia sign fishery trade protocol

Venezuela and Russia have signed a sanitary and veterinary protocol to facilitate the exchange of fishery and aquaculture products. The agreement, signed by Venezuela’s Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, follows three years of technical preparation.

The protocol establishes standards for the production, transport, storage, and commercialization of seafood products to ensure traceability and safety for both markets. The signing took place during the IX World Fisheries Forum in St. Petersburg.

In addition to the formal agreement, the Venezuelan delegation met with various Russian companies, including Algotec, Germes, and Proficoll, to discuss biotechnology, aquaculture modernization, and the use of byproducts for collagen and gelatin production. Discussions also involved Fish Retail Plus, the Russian Union of Fishery Industrialists, and Fesco regarding logistics, transport routes, and sustained trade mechanisms.
