Venezuela aquaculture and fisheries international expansion

Venezuela is expanding its international cooperation within the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

In September 2026, Venezuela and Russia signed a sanitary and veterinary protocol to facilitate the trade of fishery and aquaculture products. This agreement, finalized during the IX World Fisheries Forum in St. Petersburg, establishes standards for the production, transport, storage, and commercialization of seafood to ensure safety and traceability. Beyond the protocol, Venezuelan officials engaged with Russian companies to discuss aquaculture modernization, biotechnology, and logistics.

Simultaneously, Venezuela and Indonesia have begun exploring cooperation specifically regarding shrimp production. Following discussions in June, Venezuelan Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Juan Carlos Loyo and Indonesian Ambassador Fikry Cassidy planned a technical visit to the states of Falcón and Zulia. This initiative aims to evaluate the productive potential of the ‘Venezuela Azul’ and exchange technology to boost the Venezuelan shrimp sector’s international market position.
