Venezuela and UN evaluate technical input for criminal justice reform
Venezuela's Attorney General, Larry Devoe Márquez, led a working session with representatives from various United Nations agencies to incorporate technical recommendations into the National Consultation on Criminal Justice Reform. The initiative aims to transform the Venezuelan judicial system by aligning criminal policy with international standards regarding human rights, due process, and effective access to justice.
The meeting included representatives from several UN bodies, including UNICEF, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNFPA, UNDP, UN Women, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). UN Resident Coordinator Álvaro Rodríguez noted that the initiative provides a key opportunity to implement changes that protect vulnerable sectors and promote a more efficient justice system.
High-ranking Venezuelan officials also participated, including the President of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, Caryslia Rodríguez, and the Ombudsman, Eglée González Lobato. The participants reaffirmed an inter-institutional commitment to judicial modernization and international technical cooperation.
