Venezuela braces for widespread rains as Inameh predicts tropical waves

The Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (Inameh) issued a short‑term forecast for August 6, indicating partially cloudy skies in the morning followed by increasing rain across many Venezuelan states, including Guayana Esequiba, Bolívar, Amazonas, Sucre, Falcón, Guárico, Cojedes, Apure, Barinas, Portuguesa, the Andes region and Zulia. The agency warned of variable‑intensity precipitation in the afternoon and evening, with possible thunderstorms and lightning in several areas, and noted partial cloudiness with light drizzle in the Caracas mountains.

Inameh also announced that two tropical waves, numbered 34 and 35, are expected to reach Venezuelan territory between August 7 and 8. Wave 34 is moving westward over the central Atlantic, while wave 35 is approaching from the Cape Verde islands, both at about 10 km/h. The institute highlighted the likely presence of dry air in the mid‑troposphere and mild Saharan dust concentrations. This activity is part of the 2026 tropical‑wave season, during which Inameh projects 51‑57 waves, of which 41‑46 could generate rainfall. The agency maintains round‑the‑clock monitoring and provides a 911 emergency line for rain‑related incidents.
