Venezuela: Deputy Ávila demands approval of Deaf community rights law

Venezuelan Deputy Omar Ávila has called on the National Assembly to finalize the Comprehensive Care Law for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Persons. During a parliamentary session, Ávila noted that while the project passed its first discussion over three years ago, it has yet to undergo a second discussion and final approval.

Ávila’s request coincided with International Week of the Deaf and International Day of Sign Languages. He emphasized that the community seeks inclusion rather than special concessions. He also highlighted ongoing regional efforts for interpreter certification and gender-based violence prevention campaigns for women with disabilities, involving organizations such as CONAPDIS and UNFPA.
