Venezuela dialogue: Government and AN 2015 reach media and judicial agreements FAST-MOVING
The Venezuelan government and the 2015 National Assembly have concluded the second cycle of political dialogue, reaching several key agreements focused on freedom of expression and judicial reform.
In the area of media and information, the parties agreed to support the government's decision to expand the lifting of administrative restrictions on news portals, websites, and digital media. They also pledged to initiate a discussion regarding the use of the national radio spectrum.
Regarding the judiciary, the delegations agreed to establish a Council for the Review of Credentials and Requirements for candidates to the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ). This council will be composed of seven jurists: Belén Ramírez Landaeta, Rogelio Pérez Perdomo, Bernardo Pulido Márquez, Silio Sánchez, Deyanira Nieves, Federico Fuenmayor, and María Bernardoni Govea.
Jorge Rodríguez, head of the government delegation, announced that the third round of negotiations is scheduled to begin in mid-October. He also stated that decisions regarding judicial and administrative processes against journalists would be revealed this coming Monday. Additionally, Rodríguez reaffirmed that all upcoming elections, including parliamentary, regional, municipal, and presidential, will proceed according to the constitutional calendar.
