Venezuela experiences two-degree temperature rise due to El Niño

The El Niño phenomenon has caused temperatures in Venezuela to rise by at least two degrees Celsius, according to José Ramón Pereira Bastida, Vice Minister for the Preservation of Life and Biodiversity. The official noted that this temperature spike is a clear indicator of global warming and is exacerbated by intense solar radiation.

High temperatures are expected to persist for the next 30 to 40 days. Furthermore, these climatic alterations are projected to affect the national climate perception until mid-2027, potentially preventing the typical drop in temperatures usually seen during the latter months of the year.

In response, the government has called for collective action to ensure the protection of basic services. Priority is being placed on designing plans for the efficient use of energy and water resources, as well as implementing forest fire prevention protocols. The Ministry of Ecosocialism is also focusing on monitoring high-risk biological areas and prioritizing the reforestation of watersheds to protect water sources and ensure supply.
