Venezuela honors emergency responders following June earthquake

Venezuelan authorities and state entities have issued decorations to personnel involved in the emergency response following the double earthquake on June 24 in La Guaira.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez awarded the ‘Héroes y Heroínas de Venezuela’ order to staff from the Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE). The agency utilized satellite imagery through the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters to generate maps that assisted Civil Protection and other agencies in evaluating affected areas and conducting search and rescue operations.

Additionally, the state oil company PDVSA honored firefighters, rescuers, and members of its Emergency Response and Control Brigade. PDVSA President Héctor Obregón and Minister of Hydrocarbons Paula Henao recognized the deployment of over 100 brigadiers to the central coast for logistical support and rescue efforts. The company also announced a continuous training plan with international certifications for its emergency teams.
