Venezuela implements energy saving measures amid electricity crisis

Venezuela is implementing energy-saving measures across various sectors in response to an electricity crisis and government-mandated rationing attributed to the El Niño climate phenomenon.

Alfredo Cohen, president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Shopping Centers (Cavececo), stated that affiliated malls are adopting a contingency plan to mitigate the impact on the national power grid. Instead of reducing operating hours, malls are using a technical protocol that involves turning off central air conditioning systems during peak demand periods, specifically from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. To maintain lighting and basic services, these establishments are activating independent self-generation equipment.

Simultaneously, the Metro de Caracas is evaluating energy efficiency strategies to ensure service continuity. Officials from the Metro system met with representatives from the Ministry of Electric Energy to coordinate the application of an energy saving plan. While discussions focused on optimizing consumption without disrupting transport operations, specific changes to service schedules or frequencies have not yet been announced.
