Venezuela implements epidemic intelligence to strengthen public health
Venezuela is implementing an epidemic intelligence system to strengthen its public health infrastructure. Through the Ministry of Popular Power for Health and in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the country has begun training sessions to establish a National Event Detection Center. This center aims to ensure timely responses to health emergencies.
The initiative includes technical support from Germany’s Robert Koch Institute to develop advanced tools for early detection. The strategy focuses on unifying criteria across various health surveillance areas, such as environmental health and community networks. It also plans to utilize official data sources and open-source mechanisms, including digital media and social networks, to increase the system's sensitivity in identifying outbreaks and epidemics.
