Venezuela infrastructure damaged by heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall across Venezuela has caused significant infrastructure damage and transportation disruptions. In the western region, intense precipitation led to the total collapse of a section of the Troncal 005 highway in the Curbatí sector of Barinas state. The flooding undermined the road's foundation, causing the asphalt to fall into a deep hole and cutting off the vital connection between Barinas and Táchira. This route is essential for the distribution of food, fuel, and passengers from the Andes to the center of the country.
In Caracas, two large trees fell onto the Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro highway in the Antímano sector following Saturday rains. Emergency teams, including the Capital District Fire Department and the ‘Ángeles de la Autopista’ paramedics, worked to clear the debris. While two lanes have been reopened to alleviate congestion, crews continue to work on the site.
Additional weather-related incidents were reported in Mérida, where overflowing streams caused landslides that blocked key sections of the Trans-Andean highway, temporarily isolating rural areas.
