Venezuela internet censorship: Over 200 domains remain blocked

The NGO VE Sin Filtro has reported that at least 202 internet domains remain blocked in Venezuela. The restrictions primarily target news outlets, human rights organizations, social media platforms, and digital tools used to bypass censorship.

According to data updated in late June, 92 of the blocked domains are news sites linked to 65 different media outlets. The organization noted that censorship methods include DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and IP address blocking, with access varying depending on the internet service provider used.

VE Sin Filtro stated that the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) has the authority to order providers to lift these blocks without requiring new legislation, asserting that ending the censorship only requires “political will.” This report follows a recent manifesto by dozens of media and civil organizations demanding freedom of expression and the repeal of legal frameworks used to criminalize dissent. Venezuela was recently ranked last among 23 countries in the 2025 Chapultepec Index of Freedom of Expression and the Press.
