Venezuela media representatives meet with National Assembly over press freedom

Media representatives and press freedom organizations held an online meeting with members of the 2015 National Assembly of Venezuela to discuss the current state of freedom of expression in the country.

Participants, including representatives from outlets such as El Impulso, El Nacional, and La Patilla, as well as the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP), presented concerns regarding the limitations and adversities faced by journalists. The group proposed that freedom of expression be included as a central theme in the upcoming round of negotiations scheduled for this month in Caracas. Gabriel Bastidas, director of Monitoreamos, emphasized that the ability for citizens to express themselves freely is a fundamental element for the restoration of democracy.
