Venezuela Ministry of Public Prosecutor cites pulmonary embolism in prison death of Victor Hugo Quero

The Venezuelan Public Ministry announced that the death of inmate Victor Hugo Quero Navas, who had been held at the Rodeo I prison, was caused by a pulmonary embolism. Autopsy and histological, toxicological examinations found no traumatic injuries and dated the death to roughly 10 months to one year after his detention.

The investigation, ordered by President Delcy Rodríguez and carried out by the National Human Rights Fiscal, involved the exhumation of the body on 8 May, participation of forensic authorities and family members, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to oversee prison‑rights compliance.
