Venezuela opposition leaders demand presidential elections

Opposition leaders in Venezuela are calling for a clear path toward presidential elections to restore political stability and legitimacy. Andrés Velásquez, leader of La Causa R, argued that the country's reconstruction requires legal and political legitimacy, questioning the continuation of an interim government structure. He emphasized the need for an electoral calendar to facilitate presidential elections as a means to overcome the current political crisis.

In the Zulia region, leader Lester Toledo expressed that the local population demands free presidential elections rather than other types of contests. Toledo proposed a transition route involving institutional changes, including the designation of a new Supreme Tribunal of Justice and the formation of a new National Electoral Council. He also called for the release of political prisoners and highlighted the importance of María Corina Machado in the upcoming political stage.
