Venezuela political factions begin transition talks in Caracas

Representatives from the Venezuelan government and the opposition have begun face-to-face negotiations in Caracas to discuss the country's reinstitutionalization and political transition. The dialogue is being conducted under the tutelage of the United States government.

The meetings are led by Jorge Rodríguez, acting as coordinator for the interim government, and Dinorah Figuera, the former president of the 2015 National Assembly and the only parliamentarian recognized by the Trump administration. The initial discussions, which follow a failed attempt to begin talks on August 1st, are expected to continue until August 12th.
