Venezuela poultry sector aims for 1.5 million tons of annual production

The Venezuelan poultry sector is experiencing a production recovery, rising from 200,000 annual tons in 2018 to over 800,000 tons currently. Francisco Tagliapietra, president of the National Federation of Poultry Farming of Venezuela (Fenavi), projects that the industry could reach a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year within the next three years.

Tagliapietra stated that the country is currently fully supplied with poultry products, eliminating the need for finished product imports. He noted that domestic production facilities are of a high standard, comparable to those in Brazil, the United States, or Europe.

To facilitate international trade, the federation has proposed the creation of a National Poultry Export Council to coordinate between public and private sectors. Current obstacles to exporting include packaging and transport standards; while international markets require boxes classified by weight and units, local practices still rely heavily on sacks and baskets.
