Santo Domingo prepares for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Dominican Republic will host the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games from 24 July to 8 August 2026. City authorities have drawn up a comprehensive mobility plan, coordinated by the National Institute of Transit, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Sports and other agencies, to run from 17 July to 9 August and ensure smooth traffic for athletes, officials and spectators. A torch relay has already passed through Santo Domingo Norte, Este and other municipalities, with local officials, Olympic medalists and community leaders handing the flame to the public.

Participating delegations are being announced. Guatemala will send a record 477 athletes, its largest ever team. Costa Rica confirmed 268 athletes competing in 28 sports, while Aruba’s TEAMARU will comprise 34 athletes in 10 disciplines. Barbados revealed a 201‑strong squad with a dedicated medical and administrative support team. Cuba disclosed a pre‑selection of 30 baseball players for the tournament, including a 20‑player roster for the Sub‑23 competition. Local preparations include the remodel of the National Judo Pavilion at a cost of 70 million pesos and the training of about 200 volunteers to assist with medal ceremonies and venue operations. Together, these efforts aim to deliver a successful regional multisport event and showcase the host city’s hospitality and organization.
