Venezuelan couple killed by gunmen in Norte de Santander

A Venezuelan couple was killed by gunmen in the rural area of El Zulia, Norte de Santander, Colombia. The victims, identified as 35-year-old Eliecer José Flores Flores and his partner Zaida Elena López Leal, were traveling on a motorcycle in the Camilandia area when they were intercepted and shot multiple times.

Preliminary investigations suggest the victims were being followed by the assailants, who were also traveling on a motorcycle. Flores Flores was a fugitive from justice in Venezuela; he had reportedly escaped from a police facility in Coro, Falcón state, in December 2025 while in custody for alleged involvement in drug-related activities.

Local authorities in Colombia have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killings and identify those responsible. The family of López Leal is reportedly attempting to repatriate her remains to Venezuela.
