Colombia and Venezuela hit by devastating series of earthquakes
A series of devastating earthquakes has caused widespread destruction and loss of life across Colombia and Venezuela. In Venezuela, twin quakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck La Guaira on June 24, resulting in over 6,300 deaths and leaving thousands homeless.
On August 10, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia, with its epicenter in Chocó and significant impact in Cali. The Colombian disaster has reported at least 285 fatalities, 4,000 injuries, and hundreds of missing persons. In Cali, the collapse of residential buildings has claimed numerous lives, including a Venezuelan family of three and the Saavedra family, where only one of three sisters survived.

Some families, such as the Delfín brothers, fled the destruction in Venezuela only to experience the Colombian earthquake just days after arriving in Cali.
