Venezuelan Episcopal Conference meets with National Assembly regarding dialogue
The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) met with members of the 2015 National Assembly to discuss the roadmap for ongoing political dialogue in Venezuela. During the meeting, the Church presented several priority concerns for the national agenda.
Monseñor Jesús González de Zárate, president of the CEV, emphasized that any potential new national income or distribution of wealth must prioritize the common good over the interests of specific sectors or the state. He called for the establishment of new democratic institutions and the creation of spaces for national reconciliation.
Key demands raised by the bishops include the respect for human dignity, the guarantee of fundamental rights, and the release of political prisoners. The Church maintained that its involvement is not driven by political interests but by a desire to promote social and economic welfare for all Venezuelans.
