Venezuelan labor groups call for national protest over wages

Labor organizations in Venezuela have called for a national day of protest on September 24. The mobilization, organized by groups including the Comité Nacional de Conflicto de Trabajadores en Lucha and the Acuerdo Unitario de Trabajadores, seeks to demand a dignified wage, increased pensions, and an end to current bonus-based compensation policies.

Protesters plan to march in the capital from Parque Carabobo to the Ministry of Labor, with simultaneous demonstrations at labor inspectorates across the country. Union leaders have urged the government to respect the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, citing International Labour Organization standards.

In a related development, labor representatives have denied social media allegations against Omar Marcano, a union leader and retiree from Ferrominera Orinoco. Workers claim that false accusations linking Marcano to fuel trafficking and terrorism are attempts to intimidate labor activists and undermine ongoing protests within the CVG sector.
