Venezuelan political prisoner Yanin Pernía reportedly raped by 30 custodians at INOF

A family member of political detainee Yanin Pernía claimed she was sexually assaulted by about 30 custodians at the Instituto Nacional de Orientación Femenina (INOF) in Los Teques, Miranda state. The allegation includes reports that the guards used their service weapons and inflicted both physical and psychological trauma.

Pernía, a mesotherapist sentenced to 30 years for alleged involvement in a drone attack on President Nicolás Maduro, has been detained since 2018. Relatives and human‑rights groups say she suffered repeated abuse, including forced vaginal penetration and weapon insertion, while incarcerated. The family cited an unfulfilled promise by Venezuelan officials to release political prisoners, and highlighted a prolonged public vigil of more than 130 days outside the Rodeo I prison.

The accusations come amid broader claims of torture and mistreatment of political detainees in Venezuela, but authorities have not responded to the new sexual‑abuse allegations.
