Venezuelan prison observatory reports deaths of three inmates
The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) has reported the deaths of three inmates held in different detention centers across Venezuela, citing severe health complications and systemic failures in prisoner care.
One victim, Anthony José Portillo Gómez, was held at the Tocuyito Penitentiary Center in Carabobo. He died at the Dr. Enrique Tejera Central Hospital following neurological complications and hypertensive arterial disease.
Victor José Salgado, detained at the Rodeo IV Judicial Internment center, passed away at the Dr. Domingo Luciani Hospital due to health issues.
The third individual, Adrián Felipe, was held at the Fénix Lara Penitentiary Center. He died at the Dr. Antonio María Pineda Central University Hospital after suffering from severe dehydration, hypotension, and acute diarrheal syndrome.
The OVP criticized state institutions, including the Ombudsman's Office and the Public Ministry, for failing to provide preventive medical care. The organization argued that institutional intervention should occur when inmates present serious symptoms rather than merely recording deaths after they occur.
