Caribbean Baseball expands with three tournaments in 2027
The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) has announced a major expansion of the Serie del Caribe for 2027. For the first time, the organization will host three distinct competitions in a single year: the LXIX Serie del Caribe de Campeones de Ligas, the IV Serie del Caribe Kids, and the inaugural Serie del Caribe Teens.
As part of this expansion, the Dominican Republic will host the fourth edition of the Kids tournament, while Puerto Rico will host the first Teens edition. The CBPC is also considering a rotation plan for these youth series to allow different regional countries to host.
In Venezuela, the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP) has finalized details for its 2026-2027 season, which will be named in honor of the 2026 World Baseball Classic champions. The season is scheduled to begin on October 12, 2026. Key updates for the LVBP include an increase in the foreign player quota to eight per team and the establishment of an independent disciplinary tribunal to strengthen the anti-doping program. Additionally, the league has partnered with an international firm to implement technological monitoring to prevent match-fixing and illegal betting.
Regarding international play, the Serie de Las Américas is set to expand in February 2027, hosted in Caracas, Venezuela. The tournament will include representatives from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, alongside teams from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Curacao, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela.
