Venezuelan unions demand CNE board resignations and a timetable for presidential elections

On 9 June, more than a dozen union leaders gathered in central Caracas to protest outside the National Electoral Council (CNE). They called for the removal of all CNE rectors, whom they describe as "criminal" and aligned with the ruling party, and demanded that the council publish a clear schedule for new presidential elections. The unions warned that if the CNE fails to act, they will press for the full resignation of the board.

The demonstrations reference the constitution’s article 234, which allows the executive vice‑president to assume interim power for up to 90 days, extendable by the National Assembly. The unions argue that the interim period led by Delcy Rodríguez is set to expire on 3 July, less than a month away, and that no election has been called since the reported capture of Nicolás Maduro. Neither the presidential office (Miraflores) nor the CNE has responded to the demands.

The protest echoes earlier rallies near the U.S. embassy and calls for international observation of any future vote.
